Cavaillé-Coll organ : collaborative work

Hello,

There are several projects :

0) Oberhausbergen (old one!)
1) Stiehr-Mockers (Romanswiller)
2) The new organ I'm working on alone -> it requires lots of time, maybe it won't be free (?)

If enough people are interested, I could launch another project :
the recording of a nearby very nice Cavaillé-Coll organ (famous French XIXth Century organ maker)...
I could put the recording session online. And then I'll let it for free like an "opensource" project :
every people interested could do the looping, etc.
... This would finally lead, by working together, to a great "collaborative" soundbank !!
That would of course be freely distributed... and the "author" will be not me, but the whole team
of people who will work on this project !

Maybe on this project I would not have time to do many things, excepted the recording
and online management of the upload/download/forum/ i.e. all the things so that we could
work together easily...

Oh MY!!! This is going to be wonderful. If we want to put together a really superb HW3 sample set of this lovely organ we're going to need short, medium, and long samples of each note. If we're happy with just a really great set, then a 7-9 second sample of each note should be fine.
What do others think?

Huh.... 7-9 seconds... is a bit too long... I will fall asleep when recording...
I planned to do a new note each 8-9 seconds, so 5 seconds for the note and 4 the the reverb tail...

Anyway , all this in 96khz, 24 bit, stereo...
Will be great...

It's really a "historical organ"...

But I'll probably need to upgrade my website/FTP hosting... then

But I recall that I won't have much time to work on the recording, so maybe
I won't do many things except meet the "good persons" there, have agreement,
do lots of record tests (the right place for the mics), record... import in computer,
upload on FTP, and do the management of the project, web hosting, etc.
Are you sure te be interested ?

That's a very nice instrument there! Of course for a soundfont one doesn't need every note sampled (even if that's ideal, especially for repeating ranks like the plein-jeu and carillon) but it does definitely pay off to have a longer sample for a much better looping. 5 seconds of steady tone should be okay though I think. Stereo is also good even if it's more work...
